Gil News Report on Homeless Children Inspires a New Song

Watched this CNN Report recently and this is happening nationwide but has reached true crisis proportions in Las Vegas. Public Schools are now stockpiling food and clothes for these kids. This report really got to me. My heart goes out to these kids and I've written a song just now about this. What about these homeless children? Do the Wall Street executives really need and deserve bonuses when there are children who are homeless as a result of economic collapse caused by unchecked Wall Street… Continue

Pete Smith Making music is a labour of love, making money is a by-product.

In a perfect world we would give all our music away for free and survive on touring revenue, merchandising and licensing income. Alas this is not always possible. In order to eat we have to sell a few CD’s. The good news is that much of our catalog has been released under this creative commons license http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0 We have made many Antiqcool songs free to download for a reason, we want you to sprea… Continue

Americana Showcase Radio Productivity

The second program of this year's Americana Showcase is under way. There's lots of great music slated for this new season. It's my goal to have one show done per week as to help keep some consistency to AFC's radio show schedule, and to bring you some of the finest of rural America-influenced music for your listening pleasure. AFC members who write/record music fitting within the genre are encouraged to submit mp3s for inclusion in the show. Email me at heathrobinsonfolk (at) gmail.com. Thanks… Continue

Ro J Rant - iTunes and It Was Madness

It Was Madness may be out now but it's been a long time coming. I thought it would be almost instant puting my song on the biggest internet platform for music in the world. In short it took over a month. If you've never uploaded to iTunes let me tell you it really is very straightforward but you need to do it a month in advance of your intended release. Also you don't upload directly to iTunes. I used a company called Tunecore so maybe it's not iTunes that causes the delay maybe it is. Either w… Continue

Darrell Mitchell & Orchestra Robert Coyne

for those that dont know the Occasional Orchestra project kick started when Darrell and I had the opportunity to contribute a track to a CD to raise funds for life and living charity and the CD was to be a collection of cover versions of songs by Kevin Coyne. Typically contrary we chose a song Kevin didnt actually write - a white spiritual that was on his first album for Virgin, Marjory Razorblade ,and also a song he would, later in life, close his gigs with - Lonesome Valley. Its now on our Jap… Continue

Andrew Huggan Sense of Freedom

I have just finished recording my latest song "Sense of Freedom". You can listen to the song by clicking here. I started writing this song the first time I went to the Isle of Barra in 2007. I remember walking along Tangasdale beach one day and the chorus just came to me. So I jotted it down and hoped to keep writing but nothing else came of it. When I got back to my work after my holiday, I was bored and fed up of getting back int… Continue

Wing and a Prayer Partick Folk Club

Played Partick Folk Club in St Peters Hall, Chancellor Street, Glasgow on friday night. By far the best gig of our busy year....mainly because of the audience...I play folk clubs so seldom these days, that I forget the pleasure of an audience that wants to be entertained and actually listens. You really know if youre playing well...not just the hit and miss of barroom gigs... Thanks to Mick West and his committee for all the work they put in each month... The soup was fantastic!! [oh yes..an… Continue
