The Rawmarsh Mashers have uploaded their version of “Ordinary Man” by Peter Haines as their display of solidarity towards the workers of Rotherham, particularly Burberry and Corus, who have lost their jobs as a result of the insanity of our Bankers.

It might not pay the rent or pay the food bill, but it might provide a musical form of anger release. Myspace

The Rawmarsh Mashers are simply two old “buggers” having fun.

The union of Dickie and Myke is the result of their respective partners becoming so tired of their bodies that they were instructed to go out and get a proper hobby.

And so the guitars were dusted off, the strings tuned to a pitch just good enough for folk, the song books blown clean of cob webs, and The Mashers were launched onto an unsuspecting South Yorkshire Folk scene, where they regularly can be found terrorising audiences.

South Anston The Mashers in action - caught here by their number one fan from Ireland.

Their fame having been cemented by having a track, (Hairy Mary), played on Rother FM, the Mashers have never looked back.

Eighteen months have passed since that fateful day, and the Mashers are proud that they can still walk the streets of Rawmarsh completely unrecognised, yet be hailed by the local paper as “those veterans of the Folk scene”. Indeed, they have been acclaimed as being “World Famous in Rotherham.

Parents with children often point at The Mashers and issue a warning "if you do not live a clean and healthy life, you could end up like them!".

The Mashers mix, (for they love to be up to the minute with terminology) is extensive, be it the comedy songs or thrashing out much loved Folk classics.

The Mashers are always popular with audiences, mainly because they recommend that everyone has at least five pints of bitter and a bottle of whiskey before settling into a Masher set. Blow the expense. This also tends to make the Mashers very popular with Land Lords.

The Mashers get used to the Rock environment

You can check out what the people say about The Mashers at www.jmucreate.com or hidden away on their Myspace Blog.

One CD has been produced, the critically appreciated Deliberate Mistake”, made up of nineteen of their favourite tracks, carefully reproducing, thanks to the skill of Brian, the live sound of The Mashers.

Wot you hear, is wot you get! All the errors you hear are real, and deliberate, and working on the Eric Morcombe method “all the right notes and chords are there, but not necessarily in the right order”.

You can buy the CD direct by pressing the Paypal button to be found at Myspace or www.jmucreate.com either in traditional Down load format for £3 representing a huge discount on the Itunes or Napster price, or as a Coffee Coaster for £4.99. The same deal is available on the Rawmarsh Mashers main web site pages which can be found at www.jmucreate.com

The Rawmarsh Mashers are very proud of their association with the Acoustic Rotherham project which has grown significantly over the past nine months.

Started as a Myspace Page on which local Open Mic and Folk Clubs were listed, Acoustic Rotherham now boasts a quarterly Hiring Fair at which many of the top acoustic and Folk Acts from Yorkshire perform. The base for Acoustic Rotherham shows is The Monkwood in Rawmarsh, which is home nearly every Monday night to The Mashers open practice nights. Always check with the Myspace Gig list to be sure that we are there.

Music and Politics!!!

Hi All

An interesting week for the Mashers making for what I hope might be an interesting and thought provoking News Blog for this week.

All the artists at Acoustic Rotherham 5 stood tall and proud in their vocal support for the very late change in venue for the event, which was forced upon us because our normal venue allowed a BNP meeting in the pub. The full story is in the Blog, read it and be frightened!!

I want to thank all those who have sent messages of support to me over the past few… Continue

Now those are some great songs. I do love a bit of humour in music and you've certainly got that

Its looking likely I'm going to be in charge of 2nd stage at Spratton Folk Festival next year and if you're keen I'd love to have you there (if I do get it - its likely, not certain)
