Stoo Nicol AFC Radio DJ

Quantcast

Stoo Nicol is part of the AFC Radio team and will be coming to you live for the Midweek Meltdown every wednesday. See future blogs for schedules and key dates.

Stoo will often be accompanied with new and exciting co-host Roger Webber, king of on air banter. Roger has a veritable treasure trove of obscure music ranging from blues to ska to whatever he feels like at the time, so be prepared for some far out playlists when these two get together.

Stoo is also always on the look out for fresh new talent to play on his shows, he has a wide ranging musical taste so no band or act will be overlooked. If you want your song on his playlist, email a short note, attaching the mp3 of your choice. Be sure to label the file correctly with artist name and song title or it all gets a little confusing for him... bless.

His contact email address is crosstheborder@hotmail.co.uk

Stirling to Spratton, 370.8 miles on a bicycle all for the AFC

To continue this years successes like the Spratton Folk festival fringe stage, the AFC needs money. It's a sad but true fact.

So Rick and I have been talking about various way we can raise money for the collective to continue to fund things such as the fringe stage.

So with that in mind, courageously... or stupidly... or maybe both I have decided that I am going to cycle from Stirling to Spratton, soley on a bicycle and I am asking for AFC members to sponsor me to do it.

That's 370.08 miles s… Continue

Spratton Folk Festival - the run up

Well it's been and gone for another year and I am left completely knackered, even days after I left. However it was the most worthwhile musical experience I've ever had.

I feel like I was part of something really special, there were so many talented musicians part of the weekend and not an ego in sight. In fact I was surrounded by the most genuine, friendly people you could imagine.

The journey started for me, Rick and the infamous Chris on a monday, we went for breakfast at Morrisons (which i… Continue

Artist of the Month for March P M Von Kaenel

What a treat, the smooth as honey voice of P M Von Kaenel really has been one of the unsung hero's of the radio play list. Well no more.

All this month you will get an insight into the marvellous talent that she really is. Below is her short bio!

"I began singin' the blues with Rufus Thomas, on Beale Street in Memphis, in the 80's while I was employed on Rock 98 in Memphis & ex-Eagle, Joe Walsh, became my regular side-kick on the show.
I started writing about 15 years ago. I gig around Lon… Continue

February Artist of the Month Dolores Dagenais

Awww what can you say about Dol,

Is she not just the most fantastic discovery you are ever likely to make?

Where to start, well I've known of Dolores music since... well since I joined *cough myspace many moons ago now and I've always known she was something special since my very first listen.

However the more you devle into her impressive back catalogue, the more you realise how truly special she really is. She is an inspired song writer who captivates with deeply personal and emotional song… Continue

It's All Good's artist of the month the Hollis Robinson Project - December

In their words Hollis-Robinson Project is a duo of music hobbyists who have influences in all sorts of genres, ranging from Jazz, Classical, Rock and Trad.

I first heard their music via myspace and was immediately taken by the wonderful vocals of Jo Robinson, whose voice can be captivating in a way that very few vocalists ever achieve. Able to immediately transport the listener into whatever story she is telling at the time.

What struck me about the pair most though was their versatility, to b… Continue
