It's Bringing music back to the grassroots

a poem I wrote a few weeks ago and felt that it would benefit from some background music. The music is something I worked on a a couple of years ago and never did anything with it I think it fits the mood of the poem quite well.
What do you think?

The love has long gone
Sound oh such strange connection we have
waves and waves of sound assault my ears some of it welcome, some of it profound like the song I am listening too now.
some of it abuse my senses like the howling of a back yard hound
unsought Unwelcome
Some sounds are background noise that you can ignore, it is just there never thought about or processed by an overactive brain
sound oh such strange connection we have.
I can hear the lonesome sound of distant train.
taking it's willing and unwilling passengers who knows where.
I can hear the sound of children laughing in the long distant memory of a summer's day My children laughing while they play the games children play.

I can still hear the songs of love although the love is long gone The Song remains the same.
oh sounds what strange connections we have

I liked it. Really quite a lot. I agree that this music is a good match for the poem, it creates a nice atmosphere. I found the whole effect quite restful. The only thing that detracted from that, not a lot, just a wee bit, was that there were a few places where I found myself straining a little to hear the words. I would suggest boosting the voice a touch relative to the music. Not a lot, maybe about 5%.
This is not dissimilar to what people usually tell me about my own stuff (and with thanks to all those who contributed to the discussion, by the end of the week there will be an AFC re-mix of 'Green Grow' with just a wee bit more vox & re-jigged percussion. See, I do listen!) so I suppose it is something I'm aware of and listening for now.
Overall though it's really nice, which is why I'd say it's worth tinkering with the levels a bit to get it perfect. With poetry, listening as opposed to reading, it's the voice that makes it. Yours is perfect for this kind of material, I just want to hear it that wee bit more.

Works for me, Rick. I think it's a good marriage of spoken word and music.
11 more and you have a volume of audio poetry....

I think it's great. It's pleasant on the ears and what you did at the end with the vocals is an added touch. Just enough to make it feel produced.

I used to leave my Beagle in the back yard some and it wasn't uncommon to get a note or a phone call from one of the neighbors complaining about his howling.

I enjoyed it

Great stuff Rick.

The poem married well with the music.

It reminded me in style of faithless.

Good stuff indeed.

Best regards

I love the poem and you're a natural at reading poetry. I'm not sure about the music. I think that's the weak point. Considering the poem is all about sounds; waves, howling, background noise, distant train, passengers, children laughing and playing.. I just didn't hear 'sounds of love' in the music. It's cool music.. for something else. The poem is too evocative to just be fitted to any music available. It needs that 'strange connection' but connection, non the less, I think something more organic.. maybe working with real sounds, through effects or something, so long as it follows the mood and timbre of the lyric. I'm sure it's got power and attraction as it stands but I felt it sometimes overshadowed the voice and the lyrical message.
I loved the repeating echo of the voice at the end. Excellent!
