It's Bringing music back to the grassroots

Hi folks,

I have just finished my new song and would love to hear your thoughts/constructive criticisms on it.

The song can be played using the player below.

I started writing this song the first time I went to the Isle of Barra in 2007. I remember walking along Tangasdale beach one day and the chorus just came to me. So I jotted it down and hoped to keep writing but nothing else came of it.

When I got back to my work after my holiday, I was bored and fed up of getting back into the same old routine when another idea went whizzing through my head. Luckily enough, it seemed to tie in well with the chorus I wrote in Barra, but after that nothing else happened. Every now and then over years since then I've looked over it and tried to finish writing it, but to no avail...until recently.

A few weeks ago I pulled my wee book out and looked at it and decided I wanted to finish writing the song. It totally flowed once I got going and I made a very rough recording of the song so that it wouldn't disappear. I really liked what I had done with the song and ave now finshed recording my first demo of it.

"Sense of Freedom" is a song all about daydreaming, that feeling you get when you are sitting at work looking out the window and wishing you were somewhere beautiful. I no longer work at the same desk as when I started writing this song a few years ago, but the view I had was lovely. I remember it looked out over the Trossachs towards Ben Ledi, Ben Lomond etc and it always brightened my day a bit when I looked out there, knowing what beauty lay in the lands just outside the window.

Sense of Freedom

(c)Andrew Huggan 2009

From the moans and groans
Of a dingy office floor
My mind it wanders
Yearns for so much more
Dreams of moors and shores
Of lands so wild and free
And oceans greater
Than we can ever be

As I walk across this land
Walk the silver, silver sand
I feel a sense of freedom
That others can only dream of

As the sun shines through
The dusty window pane
Like golden glitter
Never looking quite the same
I see the distant lands
Where my heart and soul they stand
In open acres
Wild and braw and grand

As I walk across this land
Walk the silver, silver sand
I feel a sense of freedom
That others can only dream of

Where the tall trees stand
In a land of so much more
My heart keeps yearning
For an unlocked door
That I can wander through
To a country big and proud
With light and laughter
No sadness rain or cloud

As I walk across this land
Walk the silver, silver sand
I feel a sense of freedom
That others can only dream of

Oh to hold it in my heart
Mother nature's loving art
I'll feel that sense of freedom
That others can only dream of

Just listening now.
Great intro. Nice melody.
Yeah! Uplifting, catchy. Quite introspective at the same time.
Nice production too. Great lyrics.
I like it.
The only thing i'm not sure about is the fuzz guitars over it.
8 out of 10.
Good stuff :)
